Management Trainee Year 1

Whilst reading Geography at the University of St. Andrew’s I completed modules in Economics, Finance and Management. To further this interest in the financial industry I was fortunate in securing summer internships with the Royal Bank of Scotland, Barclays Wealth and HSBC Private Bank. I originally applied to Alliance Trust because, as a company, it stood out for three crucial reasons.

The Management Training Programme offered a rotational basis that would enable me to sample all areas of the business, and gain exposure to senior management at a level from which I could directly learn.

The company also supports its graduates through access to professional qualifications such as the IMC and CFA, which was particularly important to me coming from a non-finance related degree. Lastly throughout my correspondence with the company,

I gained the impression that Alliance Trust had a good work-life balance, with the business environment being friendly and supportive. Since starting my first rotation I have worked within the investment team, specifically the North American Equity Desk. I have thoroughly enjoyed the depth and diversity that my first few months at Alliance Trust have brought and look forward to working to new challenges within such a progressive company.
