Management Trainee

I decided to apply for Alliance Trust’s Management Training Programme after carrying out a two month internship with the company in 2005. During the internship I was given an extensive range of work which was focused in the Economics and Investment Departments. Highlights included helping with a project on inflation, researching the Canadian economy (with respect to investment opportunities) and giving a presentation on Hong Kong’s demographics which was attended by the CEO. Working alongside the Management Trainees was another positive as it allowed me to see the responsibility and wide range of opportunities they were given.

The rewarding experience I had during the summer was fundamental to my decision to apply for the MTP. Fortunately I was selected as one of the 2007 trainees.

Now in my second year I have already experienced many different facets of the company. My first rotation was in the newly formed Asset Management Subsidiary where I was an integral part of the launch preparations. This was followed by time spent working on a revenue model for the pensions side of Alliance Trust Savings over the summer of 2008. My final year one rotation was in the CEO’s office which allowed me to really see the workings of the company and interact with diverse areas and people across the business.

By the end of year one, I successfully completed the three IAQ (now CIA) exams and passed the full IMC.

I am currently working in the Investment Department for the North America Team. The recent launch of the North American Equity Fund through Alliance Trust Asset Management has really focused the team and it is an exciting and challenging time to be working with them.
