ALLIANCE TRUST PUBLISHES WEBCAST AND ‘HOW-TO’ FACTSHEET ABOUT PROTECTING EXISTING PENSION RIGHTS

PLEASE NOTE: A special preview of the webcast for journalists only is available at www.alliancetrust.co.uk/pressplayer

Alliance Trust Savings has today published a webcast and bulletin which explain to advisers how they can protect their clients’ pre A-Day pension rights, clarifying when this is needed and how to go about applying for protection. The webcast and bulletin also outline the different types of protection available and how each of these work depending on the situation of individual clients.

Pensions Development Manager Steve Latto said, “Knowing and understanding the different protection options of pre A-Day pension rights can be confusing. With so many different options available it is important that advisers are offering their clients the best advice depending on their individual circumstances.  We have produced this webcast and bulletin to help advisers guide their clients through this process.

“Advisers must raise protection as an important consideration with their clients who are members of existing pension schemes, and who may have been adversely affected by the changes to pensions regulations on 6 April 2006.  The type of protection can take a variety of different forms, but the main two are either ‘primary’ or ‘enhanced protection’.  It is vital to act now, as in most cases members must notify HM Revenue & Customs if they are intending to rely on protection and the notification must be received by 5 April 2009.”

Advisers can read the analysis in the Pensions Bulletin called ‘Protecting Existing Pension Rights’ and view the webcast that is available on the Adviser Centre of Alliance Trust’s website at www.alliancetrust.co.uk/adviser

Advisers can also request future e-newsletters from Alliance Trust Savings on the adviser centre at www.alliancetrust.co.uk/adviser
