  • Platform registers record net purchases of investment trusts in Q1 2009/10

Alliance Trust Savings, a leading UK financial services provider, today publishes the results of its quarterly ‘Alliance Trust Investment Trust Ranking’ for the first quarter of the 2009/10 tax year. The Alliance Trust Ranking lists the most popular investment trusts that private investors have chosen for their investment accounts through Alliance Trust Savings.

The latest ranking shows that last quarter’s top three have all retained their top positions. At the other end of the table there were seven new entries into this quarter’s Top 20, including Mercantile Investment Trust, Witan, Personal Assets and two Martin Currie trusts: Martin Currie Portfolio and Securities Trust of Scotland.

Malcolm Dodds, Head of Platform Development & Investment Trust Services at Alliance Trust Savings, said, “We continue to see increasing demand for investment trusts on our platform. This quarter we saw record net purchases of investment trusts – the third successive quarter that this record has been broken.

Since the launch of our online service in 2007 we have seen an incredible transformation in our business. During this quarter, almost 80% of active trades were carried out online, a great improvement from three years ago when every instruction was posted to us, before being processed manually.”
